The facts about greasy skin care

by skwriter on July 31, 2009

To start the discussion on oily skin care, it’s urgent to first understand the cause behind oily skin. Put simply, oily skin is a result of excessive production of sebum ( an oily substance that is naturally produced by skin ). As one says, too much of something is bad, and this is particularly true with excessive sebum. It leads to the formation of acne as it clogs the pores, making dead cells acquire. Moreover, greasy skin spoils your looks too. So, ‘oily skin care’ is as vital as the ‘skin care’ for other kinds of skin.

The basic purpose of ‘oily skin care’ is the removal of unnecessary sebum or oil from the skin. However, complete removal of oil must be avoided. ‘Oily skin care’ starts with the utilization of a cleaner. Now all cleansers work, though. You want a cleaner which has salicylic acid i.e. A beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. You need to cleanse at least twice per day, more in a hot climate.

While most oily skin products are oil-free, checking the ingredients before you buy is endorsed. If a product is marked ‘suitable for all skin types’, be extra care. Take the degree of oiliness into account, as well – a few of these ‘suitable for all’ products may work on you if you’re not too oily. Only oily skin care products are acceptable for highly greasy skin. Your greasy skin care routine can include an alcohol based toner (for an extremely shiny skin). This can be the second step in your greasy skin care routine i.e. Just after cleaning. However, you may harm your skin if you tone unacceptably.

A mild moisturizer is next on your routine. Again, the degree of oiliness of your skin will resolve whether you want to include this in your shiny skin care routine. Be certain to employ a moisturizer that is wax, lipid, and oil-free.

Another skin care measure that you can utilize is a clay mask, and you can use this once a week or so.

As far as the oily skin care creams go, you might need to try out some before you arrive at the one that is really acceptable for your skin.

In case these measures don’t give you the desired result, consult a good dermatologist for advice. He could prescribe stronger oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulphur creams etc, which can help counter the issues of greasy skin.
