One mans trash is another man’s treasure. In the art of recycling crafts this is the golden rule.I learned how to make my first toothbrush bracelet in the sixth grade and have become a devoted re-shaper ever since. Making things out of reused materials is almost unlimited. I’ve seen dresses made out of Fabric Shower Curtain , earrings made out of guitar picks and even chairs made out of Shower Curtain Rods ! It can save tons of money and ensures all of your things are unique! My favorite things to make are record bowls, toothbrush bracelets, and tote bags.
Record bowls are a great gift idea. If I forget about a birthday or feel my present is inadequate, I can always just whip one up. It is literally a bowl made out of a record. I found the idea from a website that made cups out of them, but when I tried that it just didn’t work. The first step is to acquire. I highly recommend going to thrift stores in your town. Most of these sell old records of various sizes ranging from 25-50 cents in price. I like to try and find records of bands that the person I’m giving the bowl enjoys; or ones with cool designs. After you get your records, all you will need is an oven, an oven-safe bowl, and a cookie sheet. Preheat your oven to around 350 degrees and place the bowl face down on the cookie sheet. Situate the record one the bowl so that the circle of the record aligns with the circle on the bowl. The record will melt and take the shape of the bowl, but don’t worry about it melting to the bowl because it says pretty cool and firm. You can shape your bowl to have waved edges or an interesting shape.
Toothbrush bracelets are cheap, fun and always in style. You may be thinking that they would be ugly or uncomfortable but it’s the complete opposite. Children’s toothbrushes are perfect for these, especially because you can get them in fun colors and designs. This is also a really low maintenance craft; all you need is a pot, water, pliers, and tongs. First, pull the bristles off the brush. Bring the water to a boil and place the toothbrush in the pot. As the toothbrush gets softer, lift it out and bend it with the tongs. Let cool, and wear!
Tote bags are harder than the other two items, but not too difficult. Find two patterned fabrics, thread, and a sewing tool. Cut out four squares of fabric, two of each. Sew the pairs together around the edges and flip the fabric you want to be the outside of the bag inside out. Then sew the lining to the outside of the bag. After you do this, you can buy handles or fashion handles out of fabric. You have then successfully made your own tote bag!
Crafts are timeless activities that are convenient and cheap. They reduce the price of jewelry almost 80% It’s the ultimate way to personalize your style. The homemade craft industry is growing into a big money maker. It’s a growing fad, and you better jump in now!
